Symptoms
When you start the Skype Windows Store app in Windows 8.1 or in Windows Server 2012 R2, the app immediately crashes, and Windows returns to the Start screen.
Cause
This issue occurs when the computer uses an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (Sandy Bridge) graphics device.
Press Windows key + R to open run box. Type WSReset.exe and hit Enter. By doing this, all store cache and corrupt settings are reset and your Windows store shall open normally.
- I also had this problem after updating. The solution for me was not to use the Spotify.exe installer from Spotify's website. Rather, I downloaded the Spotify app from the Windows 10 app Store. Now, it does not crash or shut down and works fine.
- I've also had crash-on-load issues on Windows 8.1 since the last auto-update a few weeks ago.Adding those parameters to the shortcut target didn't work for me. However I found if I clicked on a recent playlist from the Spotify taskbar menu, then the program opened fine.
- Close Spotify and uninstall it. Go to%AppData% in Windows Explorer, and delete any Spotify folders you find in Local and Roaming folders. Restart your computer. Install Spotify from the link above or from Windows Store. Note: you'll have to remove the Windows Store Spotify through Apps and Features.
